Don't worry...I am just referring to the overnight PJParty with scouts that I did last night. 150 K-5 girl scouts + helpers for a night of crazy fun!!!! It actually was a lot of fun though and went off quite well! At least that's what everyone who wasn't on the planning committee said, so I am smiling big right now! Those of us on the planning committee just thought it was complete chaos, but hey, what do we know, right? :) I guess when you are in charge you have a vision and...Well let's face it; rarely does that go as planned when you have 150 girls those ages who are this uber excited! Fortunately, all of the leaders are very flexible and we just went with the flow and it worked.
It was an Olympic theme and Lexi's troop, the fifth graders, did the opening ceremony with a welcome, a parade of troop #s, flags and banners, pledges and the National Anthem. It was great. I am very proud of how well they did and thankful for the help with the troop #s from a few fourth graders:) Then it was the craft/game rotations and then ice cream and closing and of course....swaps!
And then the real fun began! You see at 10pm we kick the K-2nd graders out and the 3rd-5th (and some wonderful, amazing, awesome, I love you, please do it again next year:) ) moms stay overnight at the school!! Everyone gets their various sleeping apparatus ready in the gym and laid out and then the girls do 'beauty parlors' with nail-painting, massages and hair styling in the cafe and there is a movie in the gym. We get pizza at 11 and then try and start winding things down with the hopes of having the 3rd graders in watching the movie and drifting to sleep with the older ones to follow shortly. Which, honestly, worked for the most part!
There have been years where the girls(5th grade mostly) were allowed to stay up all night in the cafe but the leaders who were in charge, including yours truly, decided that was not going to happen this year since none of us wanted to stay up with them! Most of the girls were asleep by 1-ish(YAY) There were a few hold outs, who were quiet but still awake, but....I was tired and so at quarter to two I went over and said, "It is now almost 2 and unless you are over 21, which only I am, you are not allowed to be awake anymore. Good night," and walked away. They were asleep by 2:15 :) I was not, obviously, and the last time I looked at my watch it was 2:50. But that was not due to the girls at that point but to me trying to sleep on an air mattress with my knee throbbing from standing for like 12 hours straight since I spent all afternoon getting ready! I will say the wakeup at 5:15 by Belle having to go to the bathroom kinda stunk as I never really fell back asleep before the alarm went off at 6.....and then you have to get 68 girls up and packed up and ready to go by 7...which was not too hard either, had to help stuff a few sleeping bags but heck, I need help with mine! Then a donut and juice or milk in the cafe and parents taking very tired girls home! All in all a success.
There was of course the minor drama incident, but to have only 1 between 68 girls, several of whom were siblings, and not until 11:15pm was a testament to how great these girls are. I feel so fortunate to have ended up at the school we did with all of the other families that we did. My girls are so lucky to have the girls in these networks that they do. And I have to think that is all due to the parents, who Ed and I are so lucky to know. The women last night were amazing. The dads who got up and came to get the girls were amazing, or at the very least earning Brownie points:P Geeze...maybe I should thank their parents and ours too as if it wasn't for the foundations that they laid we all wouldn't be the parents that we are, thanks.
Soooo, I'm gonna start rambling since technically I have only had about 5 1/2 hours of sleep at this point, and in case you're doing the math, I came home and napped for about 3 hours this morning. But that is why I didn't blog yesterday, spent most of the day doing stuff for it and then was at it! Hopefully you all will let this one slide (talking to you Mr M.W. and you Mz C.W. .... :P )
Have a great day all.
Blog ya later-
K
PS....if I seem less coherent than usual, sorry, my brain is just not completely functioning and I can't keep rediting this because I just keep changing it and I'm starting to think I'm "going in circles" on the phrases that I'm changing!
